Risk Factors for Non-Insulin- Dependent Diabetes
نویسنده
چکیده
findings related to the epidemiology and natural history of the disease. Risk factors influence the risk of disease occurrence but, in most cases, are not the causal factors. For instance, prosperity and abundance of food do not directly cause obesity but may increase its incidence by making the causal exposure (food intake) more likely. A narrower definition of risk factor assumes that modification of the factor is possible and that such modification will change disease occurrence. In this sense, demographic characteristics such as age, gender, and ethnicity are not risk factors.

Background: Non- alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a pathogenic factor of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. On the other hand, the circulating liver enzymes including Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Alanin aminotranferase (ALT) and Gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) are commonly elevated in asymptomatic patients with NAFLD.Methods: As a nested case-control study, AST, ALT, GGT as w...

Preview Hypertension, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, and hyperinsulinemia--acknowledged risk factors for coronary artery disease--are all more common in persons with non-insulin-dependent diabetes than in nondiabetic persons. The interrelationships of these risk factors are becoming increasingly recognized. This article discusses the dyslipidemias commonly seen in type II diabetes and descri...

Lowering the glucose level in diabetic patients reduces the risk of many consequences which are usually reported in these patients. Non-insulin dependent (type II) diabetes which cannot be controlled with sulfonylureas alone can be controlled with a combination of sulfonylurea and insulin. In an open randomized trial 58 patients were divided into three groups. The fIrst group received only ...
متن کاملBirth characteristics of women who develop gestational diabetes: population based study.
Women with gestational diabetes are at increased risk of non-insulin dependent diabetes and their babies are at increased risk of adverse perinatal outcomes. These risks can be reduced by better detection and control of diabetes. Identifying risk factors for gestational diabetes may improve screening programmes. As low birth weight has been related to non-insulin dependent diabetes in elderly p...

Background & Aims: Polycystic ovarian syndrome is one of the most common hyper androgenic disorders in reproductive age. Women with lack of ovulation and hyper androgenic are exposed to non-insulin dependent diabetes. Our goal was the survey of abnormal glucose tolerance, insulin resistance and risk factors that affect the incidence of diabetes type2 in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (...

Retinopathy is an important sequela of diabetes mellitus, but clinical risk factors for this condition have rarely been assessed in a geographically defined population. In this population-based study, the 1135 Rochester, Minnesota, residents with diabetes mellitus initially diagnosed between 1945 and 1969 (incidence cohort) were followed through their complete medical records in the community t...
